There Is Much Work To Be Done

They come from just down the hill with buckets, bowls, and cups in hand.

Baby siblings tied to their backs or carried in their arms.

The children of Masese come, bare feet treading the red ground.

These children walk to the Masese Co-educational School each day at noon to receive a lunch of posho and beans. They hold out their pails to be filled, taking care to get enough to feed themselves and each of their brothers and sisters.

Over 1200 children from the Masese community come during this time, making lunch quite a lively event. There is much work to be done in preparation of the food to feed these sweet children.

One of the Amazima cooks lets some of the children help sort through the beans. They laugh as they work together to remove rocks and "bad beans" before putting them in the pot to simmer.

Amazima's feeding program is funded by the sales of magazine bead jewelry made by our Amazima beading circle and by gifts made by generous Amazima donors. Many people know that when you buy these beads you are helping to support these women, but did you also know that by buying Amazima beads you are also feeding 1200 children every day?

These children come from hard circumstances. Although it may seem like a small gesture, we hope these children see Christ in the hands that provide them this meal every day.

If you would like to help provide these children with lunch each day, please consider making a purchase from the Amazima store or by donating directly to our "Feeding/Masese" fund.

  2. I just finished reading Kisses From Katie with my oldest two daughters... my oldest turns ten on Tuesday and has asked instead of gifts for her party that her friends bring a donation for Amazima, and we've also purchased an Amazima beaded necklace for each party comer to take home as a reminder... This blog post will be the perfect thing to show/read at the party for the kids to know where their money is going! Our daughter Sarah has also announced that she'd like to go as a missionary to Uganda as soon as she is old enough/able and I have no doubt she will go as she has determined in her heart to do it! Katie, your example of FAITH and obedience is incredible... we are thankful and we are praying for you, your daughters, Amazima, and the precious people of Uganda!

  8. I need this perspective today.

I am thankful God has led me to this ministry and the life story of Katie Davis. What an inspiration. I pray that many will be moved to give to help feed and minister to these precious, beautiful children.
