Child Sponsorship: Meet Ofono

Every Saturday, ten year-old Ofono gathers with his friends and hears the Word of God preached at Amazima.  As one of our sponsored children, Ofono receives an education, three meals a day, school supplies, Bible teaching, and medical care.   But Saturday at Amazima is the highlight of his week.  “I like to sit and pray with the other children,” he shares. “It makes me feel like we are a family together.”

When Ofono’s father died a couple of years ago, his mother abandoned him and the rest of his siblings. There was no one to care for the children except for Ofono’s grandmother, who still looks after him today. Unfortunately, she could not manage to pay the school fees required to send her grandson to Primary School.  Amazima is proud to be able to come alongside Ofono’s grandmother and help her care for her grandchildren.

Ofono’s life today is now drastically different. Through Amazima, he not only has his basic needs met, but every Saturday he experiences continuity of friendship and community, playing alongside other children, sharing lunch, singing, praying, and praising Jesus together.  Throughout the week, Ofono attends school and he now has hope for what the future might hold.

Thank you for helping Amazima love and care for children like Ofono. It is our privilege and blessing to see transformation in the lives of His children.

  1. What a beautiful boy! I just finished reading Kisses from Katie and cried through the whole thing. I was so inspired! For my Christmas present, 15 ducks were bought through World Vision and next on the list is a goat :)
    Merry Christmas to you all
    Blessings to everyone there!

  2. Thanks for sharing Ofono's story. So sad the life that he has had to live and the lives that so many children in Uganda and the world have to live, but wonderful the hope that Amazima is giving them. God is good.

  3. My husband asked what I wanted for Christmas this year and I told him I'd him to buy a year's sponsorship through Amazima, and to renew that sponsorship every year after this one! I have to be honest. I will be disappointed if he bought me a gift instead.
