University Student--Meet Dennis

Five years ago Dennis Emuron’s father died before he finished high school. With two brothers and five sisters all in need of school fees, he anxiously wondered how he would go to college, or if he would go at all. He knew Oliver, Amazima’s School Program Manager, and went to ask for help.
“Madame Oliver took me to Mommy Katie’s house. I introduced myself and she told me she was looking for future university students. She wrote down my name and information, and I left praying that she could help me reach my goals.”
Dennis, a confident and well-spoken young man, now 22, is beginning his second year at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. He is studying to become a teacher, but his ultimate goal is to become a lawyer. “I want to study and analyze the law. Many times people use bribery and it is not fair, not honest. I want to analyze the real truth and help people.” Between studies, Dennis enjoys listening to gospel music and playing the keyboard for his church.
When asked what Dennis thought about Amazima, he immediately smiled. “It is a good organization that has accepted people like me who have fallen in a ditch. When my father died, Amazima became like a parent to me. Now I have become what I didn’t expect to become.” Dennis is now a role model for the younger sponsored children who can have confidence in their future.

Thank you for helping Amazima send students like Dennis to University.  With such a high unemployment rate, it is difficut to secure a job in Uganda if you do not have a college education.  Read more about our University Program.
