Mutesi is only four years old. She used to stand at the fence of the Amazima land and peer through the barbed wire, watching Amazima’s sponsored children as they gathered for Saturday program. Beside her was her brother and sister.
One day Katie invited them in. She had not bathed in weeks, and she was wearing the only dress she owned. Katie learned Mutesi lived with her grandmother and siblings, but her grandmother was unemployed and could not afford school for any of the children.
Today, Mutesi and her brother and sister have joined our sponsorship program. She clasps my hand in hers as we talk, and she giggles between answers. She admires her preschool English teacher Gladys and smiles, saying, “I want to be a teacher like her. I love school, especially when we sing our numbers.”
She likes the Saturday program because she can sit with her best friend, Marvin, during bible study, and learn to pray with Raoul (Amazima’s program leader). She speaks softly and looks at her little feet covered in red dirt.
What a privilege it is to love and care for these little children. Thank you to all our sponsors for helping us make a difference in the lives of Mutesi and her siblings.
