Christmas Communion

We all come from different parts of the world.

We have different cultures, different backgrounds, and different situations.

There is one thing, however, that most of us have in common.

Bread breaking.

And it might not actually be with bread.  It could be with rice or potatoes.  It could be with mangos or bananas.  The important thing is not what we are eating but instead who we are eating it with.

It is important for all people in all cultures to share food with family and loved ones.

It is a symbol of acceptance, of friendship, of communion.

What a blessing it is that even from
across oceans
we have the opportunity to share food with other families.

Families that even though maybe we have never formally met, are still a part of our family - the body of Christ.

At Christmas time, Amazima gives each family in our Sponsorship Program a gift.  Last year, the gift of a Christmas basket with useful items was so well received that we have decided this year to gift  a Christmas basket full of different types of foods.  This way, not only are we sharing with one
another as the universal body of Christ, but it allows each individual family to share in
communion with one another.

All nestled in large saucepan with a wooden spoon - foods like potatoes, matoke (similar to a plantain), onion, tomato, ground peanuts (that are later turned into a sauce), sugar, flour, pumpkin, and salt all aid in helping guardians to provide a Christmas meal for their children.  This empowers them to gain responsibility over their families, as well as  restores trust in children that they are
being cared for and that they belong.

Remember our mentors we've posted about previously?  They have been hard at work taking a photo of each family in our program.  Each picture will be framed and included in the family's gift basket.
For some, this may be the one and only photo of their family that they have.

A Christmas basket costs $25.00 and our goal is to give out 236 of them to families in our program.*

Would you be a part of it?

"They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the
breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many
wonders and signs performed by the apostles.  All the believers were together
and had everything in common.  They sold property and possessions to give
to anyone who had need.  Every day they continued to meet together in the
temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad
and sincere hearts,  praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.
And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."
Acts 2:42-47
