Amazima Partners with Equip Uganda

In October of 2009, Amazima partnered with an organization which was also working in Masese III. Equip Uganda (EU), who had been in the learning phase of their ministry when they partnered with Amazima, has now blossomed into a full-fledged conduit for change in the Masese community, where there is widespread poverty, malnutrition, lack of basic health care and a large number of malaria infections. “There is a kindred spirit between [Equip] and Amazima”, says EU’s representative Jeremy Boone. “Both organizations have love for the people of Masese, and hope that things can change there”.

This change of which Boone speaks about was sought out in Amazima and Equip’s first joint project, Nets Not Caskets, which brought 2,500 mosquito nets into the Masese III community.

The mosquito nets were purchased by Amazima and handed over to EU staff, who then turned the project over to members of the Masese community themselves. The community members handed out the nets to those in the community that attended multiple training sessions on how to properly use a mosquito net inside their home. The project brought lasting change to roughly 5,000 people.

Amazima also partners with Equip Uganda in the area of medical relief in Masese. While Amazima works with a local clinic to ensure that the community members of Masese have access to decent health care, EU’s Community Health Group of 15 men and women from the community continue to delve into the complex challenges of medical issues in the area. Amazima and Equip are currently building a patient database in the local clinic to ensure that correct medical records are kept and that quality care is given to each patient.

We are grateful for your support allowing us to form partnerships with organizations like Equip Uganda that develop tangible and necessary change for the people of Masese.  Thank you!
