Child Sponsorship: Meet Barbara

Nine-year-old Barbara once sat at home with her grandmother, unable to attend school because they could not afford it.  (To send a child to school in Uganda for one term costs anywhere from $10-$50, an amount that is almost impossible for most families to afford).  With both of her parents deceased, there was little hope for Barbara to ever receive any kind of formal education. It was more likely that she would soon become a young wife and bear children at a very young age, like most women before her.

Today Barbara is eleven-years-old.  She sits in a classroom at St. Moses Primary School, learning basic mathematics, reading, writing, health, and other subjects.  She’s hopeful for what the future holds.

Barbara dreams of one day becoming a teacher.  Grateful for the opportunity to receive an education, she shares: “All of these years I have been at home, never going to school.  But because of Amazima, I am now able to be in school.”

We are excited to see what God will do through the life of each Amazima sponsored child. “Obviously the key to eternal life for these children is Jesus,” Katie says.  “But the key to a better life here and now is education.  These children are not anonymous; they are not statistics.  They are people God loves, and He wants the best for them.”

Thank you sincerely, for helping Amazima educate and care for children like Barbara.

  2. Thank you for sharing about Barbara. I also look forward to the updates when we hear that she graduated from school, when she becomes a teacher and many more wonderful things that Barbara will do in Glorifying God and the blessings He bestows. The wonderful things God does for us and through us is always an uplifting encouragement and a reminder of our AMAZING GOD! Thank you again for sharing.

  3. WOW! This ministry is the result of one person who decided to obay the command that God gave us. It's about time that the children of God stand up and start to love and help not only our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, but also the lost who need to hear about the love of God. They are crying out for help and we need to love them as Christ loved us! Praise God for all he is doing through this ministry! My prayers are with kaite, the team, and most importantly the beautiful people of Uganda
